Sensational Kids Therapy now offers the Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP) to clients per the Integrated Listening System.

What is the Safe and Sound Protocol?

SSP is a powerful, evidence-based therapy designed to reduce sound sensitivities and improve auditory processing, emotional regulation, and social engagement by listening to specially filtered music through headphones. Using the auditory system as a portal, the nervous system is re-tuned to be more resilient, allowing for a more efficient response to daily challenges.

Why is my child having challenges processing and modulating auditory information?

  • Repeated ear infections or undetected fluid in the middle ear can cause loss of muscle strength in the ear cavity resulting in “learned disuse” of the typical activation patterns.

  • Children who have a propensity for low muscle tone can also have low tone in the muscles in the ear cavity, impacting their ability to process and modulate input.

  • Repeated instances of auditory input that is not well tolerated can put a child’s nervous system in a state of ‘fight or flight’ or shutdown, impacting overall emotional regulation.

What are the benefits from this program?

  • Improvements in emotional regulation and decreased anxiety.

  • Improvements in modulating and processing auditory information.

  • Improvements in sleep.

  • Improvements in attention, organization, and social interaction.

How does the program work?

  • Program and schedule for listening at home (this may start with in-clinic listening).

  • Post-assessment within one week of completing the program.

  • Follow-up meeting 4-6 weeks after program completion.

What is the cost of the program?
